Deborah Marquit
Deborah Marquit (born 1954 in Brooklyn, New York ) is an American fashion designer and is the first known designer to create Fluorescent (Neon) lingerie (bras and underwear) in 1984. This innovation earned her first sale to 17 Bloomingdales stores across the USA.〔New York Times, Author: Amy Spindler: http://www.nytimes.com/1994/05/17/style/patterns-117390.html〕 Beginning in 1985, Marquit introduced RTW (ready to wear) fabrics within her collections creating bras made with camouflage print. pleather and denim fabrics initiating a trend for inner wear designs to be worn as outerwear.
She began her career as a staff fashion illustrator for Women's Wear Daily before moving into the fashion market and her collections are sold internationally. Deborah Marquit collections are manufactured in New York City, USA and are sold in department stores, boutiques, and on-line retailers, such as Barneys and Net-a-Porter.
Deborah Marquit lingerie is consistently seen in the media and photographed by Ellen Von Unwerth, Mario Sorrenti, Mario Testino, Steven Klein, Steven Meisel among many, appearing in fashion editorials such as ''W'' magazine, ''In Style'' magazine, ''Interview'' magazine, ''CR Fashion Book'', ''Vogue'', ''Rolling Stone'', ''Esquire'', ''London GQ'', and many others. In 1990 Deborah Marquit lingerie was featured with London-based clothing line Ghost in a collaboration runway show at Seventh on Sixth.
